Two dozen Amazon employees from the New Jersey warehouse had to be rushed to five hospitals in the area after an incident in which the robot, which helps workers in the warehouse, tore open a can of bear repellant. One of the workers was even admitted to hospital in critical condition.
Everything went wrong when the robot punctured the can with concentrated capsaicin, the ingredient used in tear gas, exposing 55 of its colleagues to the gas.
Thirty employees were treated at location, while 24 were rushed to five hospitals in the region, where they were hospitalized for ‘assessment and treatment’, Amazon said in the statement. All workers were released from hospital in the 24 hours following the incident.
