During its 25 years L’Oréal Brandstorm has fully improved the existing concept of the competition, and the biggest novelty this year is that the competition consists of two challenges – in brand and tech. Partner of this year’s Brandstorm is L’Oreal Paris’ Men Expert line of cosmetics, and in accordance with the mission of the brand the students’ mission is “to improve men care through innovation that will change their habits.” Participants will find out all details of the mission after the online registration for the competition, which can be accessed until 20 February. Along with a cash prize of €10,000 for the winning teams of brand and tech challenges, the work that shows the most socially-responsible potential this year will win an additional CSR trophy, and a prize of €5,000.
In order to attract as many young innovators from different fields, L’Oréal Brandstorm for this year prepared two challenges: the brand challenge for students of economics, marketing, communication and related fields; and a tech challenge for future engineers. This move allows students of different technical universities to compete and get a chance to present their ideas, skills and creativity. Teams may consist of undergraduate and graduate students, who may be from different campuses and can apply to both challenges.
Incubator of talent and innovation
For years now L’Oréal has been committed to the task to offer all participants of Brandstorm access to internal training and education and is also dedicated to the development of their personal and professional skills. However, this year, L’Oréal goes a step further, taking the role of an incubator to help young talent achieve their goals and put their projects into practice.
“So far, the challenges were always related to some existing problem within the Group, and student ideas would serve as inspiration. Today, after a careful analysis of student projects and their feasibility, our goal is to become the incubator in terms of bringing the most innovative student ideas to life,” said Carole Pasco-Domergue, Director of Employer Branding at L’Oreal Group.
Students as exhibitors at innovation fair
One of the major novelties of this year’s Brandstorm refers to a completely new way of selection which is the complete opposite of the current typical presentation before the jury. On 15 June 2017, L’Oreal will organize this year’s finals in Paris, and its first fair of innovations where the regional finalists will present in the role of exhibitors, and will compete with their projects like real entrepreneurs. Following the example of the real fairs of new technologies and products, young innovators will have the opportunity to present their projects and innovative ideas, and convince the jury of L’Oréal Paris brand experts and managers, and specialized journalists who will be visiting the fair.
It’s expected that this new concept will increase the number of participants from 15,000 (which was the number in 2016) to 20,000 students in 2017. At last year’s finals in Paris, our region was represented by the Croatian RIT team from the Rochester Institute of Technology from Zagreb, which included Daren Perinčić, Mislav Mesek and Tamara Novak.
