Here’s a proof from Rovinj that it is possible to be successful in Croatia and to do business with large international clients. Visual Communication Studio Tumpić / Prenc, led by Creative Director Anselmo Tumpić, is collaborating with the multinational company Groupe Bel, based in France and one of the largest cheese producers in Europe.
Established in 1865, the company now has branches in 33 countries employing 12,000 people and their products are sold all over the world, including in Croatia. The first brand was created in 1921 for the “La vache qui rit“, which is sold even today, followed by a number of other brands including Babybel, Leerdamer and Boursin.
The Groupe Bel is also dedicated to art. In 2010 they founded the Lab’Bel, under the leadership of Laurent Fievet and Silvia Guerra, which supports visual artists through buying of works and organizing exhibitions. One of the Lab’Bel projects is to invite artists to paint a special edition of the “La vache qui rit” cheese.
Last year, the well-known contemporary artist Wim Delvoye was selected, while all of the visual communication to promote this release was made by the studio Tumpić / Prenc. In addition, the studio has also produced an exhibition catalog through which Bel revealed the art works that they procured over the years. This targeted reveal was actually the idea for the demanding catalog design. The cover and some inner pages are narrower than the overall catalogue, and thus easily reveal the works, or cover them, depending on how you look at it.
Anselmo Tumpić has a rich experience behind him. He has built it through engagements in prestigious companies in the international contexts – Fabrika, the creative center of the Benetton Group in Treviso, and later in the BBDO and Saatchi & Saatchi Milan subsidiaries. Among his many renowned clients are Mini Morris, Toyota and the Italian Motorway, and he is also the winner of many professional awards abroad.
In the era of brain drain in Croatia, Anselmo Tumpić returned to the homeland with great references, and in Rovinj, together with with Sara Prenc Opacic, he opened the studio Tumpić / Prenc. Determined to succeed in demanding conditions, they soon realized cooperation with important domestic clients such as Valamar and the Tourist Board of the Istrian County, but also with Videotec, one of the largest Italian video surveillance equipment manufacturers.
Along with his work, Anselmo also shows originality through artistic work. He has exhibited at numerous solo and group exhibitions in Croatia and Europe, and on his last “Instructions for Use” exhibition he used household items such as hair dryers or irons to create works of art through interaction with visitors. For one of these exhibits he was awarded the prize at the last Zagreb Salon.
