The Croatian Designers’ Association invites authors and teams (designers and related disciplines, critics, theoreticians and curators) to suggest exhibitions and projects for the HDD Gallery program. The deadline for submitting proposals is June 21, 2018. Please read the details of the terms and conditions of the competition, the program concept of the gallery, previous exhibitions and other relevant information.
The HDD Gallery is an exhibition space and space for public discussions about design and visual culture, as well as the social context of design, culture and art which significantly defines these practices, and within which they operate. The gallery promotes contemporary design, realizes new original projects at the intersection of disciplines, explores historic design achievements, and supports projects of engaged character that position design as ethically responsible discipline.
The main principle of the program is that it does not relate to the uncritical presentation of existing projects, rather than to serve as a production platform within which new projects are being developed and realized, and in that sense it as a kind of a laboratory. Due to the importance of nurturing professional and public discourse on design, these exhibitions are accompanied by conversations, round tables and lectures.
The HDD Gallery not only presents “beautiful” objects and seeks to remove the stereotypical concepts of design as an exclusive domain, and in its program points to the inextricable connection between design and everyday life and its inherent interdisciplinary nature. This is the place where the content of the concept of design is discussed, and where discussions are held about how design creates new relationships and hierarchies, how it co-creates society, everyday life, the public sphere etc.
An important part of the gallery program deals with the history of design in Croatia and seeks to show design not only in its formative and aesthetic continuity, but also through the social and cultural context in which it develops. In most of these programs, young authors participate in innovative and experimental reflections, professional designers use their competences in various exhibition projects, new hybrid forms are created in curator-design practice. The program is divided into 5 program and thematic lines: Design from a different perspective, Discursive Objects, Designing History – History of Design, Case Studies and In First Person.
Programme of the HDD Gallery is supported by the Kultura nova Foundation, the Ministry of Culture of Croatia and the City of Zagreb. Find below some of the important links
