YAHOO! CEASES TO EXIST
CEO of the internet giant Yahoo!, Marissa Mayer, which was once brought to the company from competing Google with enormous fanfare, after four and a half years at the helm of the company, announced her departure, and the condition in which she leaves Yahoo! is best described by the fact that after her departure Yahoo! will cease to exist under that name.
This was confirmed late on Monday in the company’s submission to American regulators, describing the plans for the takeover of the company by telecom giant Verizon. In addition to Mayer, immediately after the finalization of the transaction the co-founder of Yahoo! David Filo and four other senior executives will also be leaving the company, whose new name after the takeover by Verizon will reportedly be Altabe.
As soon as Mayer came to Yahoo! in July 2012, it seemed that the giant which was stumbling at that time was gaining some life. The company went to costly acquisitions, with the largest being that of Tumblr. They also launched a number of new projects, for example in the production of video content, for which they engaged some stellar names, but ultimately, little of that proved fruitful, and the last months were marked by shameful discoveries of hacks in Yahoo! email systems, which were described as the largest in the history of the Internet.

PROGRAM DIRECTOR OF 6TH DIGGIT IS URŠKA SALETINGER
Preparations for central digital event in Slovenia, 06 DIGGIT, are in full swing. The team of DIGGIT is meticulously compiling the program of the conference with this year’s director Urška Saletinger (Agency Infinum).
“First I thought about the top issues that occupy the brains of people who worked on development of Digital during the last year. Experts and clients continuously explore the expressed and hidden needs of the people,” said Urška Saletinger. “At times, the field of possibilities seems limitless, and it can quickly take you to an area for which we are still not ready. Either way, we are preparing a great program, great speakers and at least one ‘star lecturer’, with whom we have already agreed a visit to Ljubljana.”
A new feature of this year’s DIGGIT will be the Digital Marathon – a parallel program in which digital agencies will give twenty minute performances, to present their own examples of good practice in recent years.
06 DIGGIT will be held on 6 June 2017.
iPhone CELEBRATES 10TH BIRTHDAY
Steve Jobs on 9 January 2007 introduced the first iPhone – a device that has revolutionized the world of mobile phones.
Jobs described the iPhone as a “three-in-one device”: “an iPod with a wide touch screen, a revolutionary mobile phone and the most modern device for Internet communications.”
iPhone has since been introduced in several different versions, but the design, as envisaged by Steve Jobs, is still present.
At that time, his concept seemed almost overly ambitious. It meant that people should wear a real computer in their pocket. It turned out that this was exactly what they needed.
“iPhone is an essential part of our customers’ lives,” wrote the current CEO of Apple, Tim Cook on the tenth anniversary of the unveiling of the iPhone. “Today more than ever, it is redefining the way we communicate, entertain, work and live. iPhone set the standard for mobile computing in its first decade and we are just getting started. The best is yet to come,” Cook said.
