PRACTICING DESIGN CONFERENCE IN ZAGREB
Practicing Design Conference, with an accompanying exhibition, will be held in Zagreb on 20 January 2017 at the premises of VERN gallery and Croatian Designers Society, where it will present the prototypes created in workshops held within the project, and on 21 January at Lauba, within the international exhibition of graphic design and visual communications Zgraf 12.
This is the final event of the Erasmus+ project Practicing Design, which includes Croatia, Austria and Macedonia. The conference will present results of joint two-year work of seven international partner organizations from the education, business and civil sector.
Conference will include domestic and foreign speakers: Gordana Vrencoska, Danijela Domljan, Damir Bralić, Marko Koržinek, Vlatko Cvrtila, Ivana Borovnjak, Aleksandar Velinovski, Severin Filek, Goran Golik, Marta Naumovska Grnarova, Nikola Radeljković, Benno Flotzinger, Gordana Ćorić, Biserka Komnenić, Oliver Deichmann, Tvrtko Bojić, Ivan Goran Žunar, Danijela Savikj, Michael Schwab, Maja Vardjan, Maja Lalić, Relja Bobić, Petra Milički, Karla Paliska, Sonia Jojic, Isidora Nikolić, Borut Vild, Ivica Mitrović, Harald Begusch and Veronique Marrier – experts in the fields of design, production and business sector, university professors, lecturers, professional designers, participants of workshops Practicing Design, design students, organizers of design events and festivals, as well as wider public.

HUAWEI ANNOUNCES A NEW ERA IN MOBILE TELEPHONY
World’s third largest manufacturer of smart phones last year reached a figure of 139 million units of smartphones shipped, and the total investment in research and development over the past decade have exceeded $ 38 billion
Richard Yu, CEO of Huawei Consumer Business Group, at the Consumer Electronics Show 2017 held in Las Vegas, presented Huawei’s vision of intelligent phone driven by artificial intelligence as the next significant step forward in mobile telephony, but he also stressed Huawei’s latest cooperation with Amazon and Google. As part of this, smart phones Mate 9 Pro and exclusive Porsche Design Mate 9 are first Huawei devices with support for Amazon’s Alexa and Google’s VR platform Daydream.
On this occasion, Yu once again emphasized the commitment to innovation and cooperation with other leading companies in the industry as the core values of Huawei, through which the company seeks to improve the daily lives of people around the world. His speech was attended by nearly three thousand visitors.
ROGER FEDERER TOPS MOST MARKETABLE ATHLETES LIST
Roger Federer topped the list of the world’s 30 most marketable athletes with €58m of off-court earnings last year, according to researchers at the London School of Marketing.
The Sports Marketing Power List placed American basketball player LeBron James in second with endorsements of €51m last year, and US golfer Phil Mickelson was third after taking home €47m in marketing deals.
Tennis players Maria Sharapova and Serena Williams were the only two female athletes to break into the top 30, with them both earning €19m.
The three sports that are most dependent on endorsements are cricket (with 81% of earnings coming from sponsors), tennis (78%) and golf (75%).
Jacques de Cock, faculty member at London School of Marketing said: “The top 100 athletes earned a total of €3bn last year.”
SHOEMAKER NEW BALANCE LAUNCHES DATA-ENHANCED FITNESS WATCH
With athletes relying more on data to improve performance, the Boston-based shoemaker New Balance is taking a leap with its upcoming introduction of a smart watch called RunIQ, which it introduced last week at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas, the Boston Globe reports.
Powered by Intel with software from Alphabet Inc, parent company of Google, New Balance executive vice president Chris Ladd said the RunIQ, which goes on sale in February, is just the first in an upcoming family of digital products to help elite athletes record and analyze every aspect of their workouts.
Ramon Llamas, a wearables analyst at the research company IDC Corp, said New Balance is betting elite athletes and amateur wannabes will pay top dollar for an advanced sports smartwatch, the article states. “They’re not so much going after tech fans but more so the fitness enthusiasts who are comfortable with technology,” said Llamas.
