GLOBAL ALLIANCE: FOSTERING PUBLIC TRUST IS POSSIBLE ONLY THROUGH RESPECTING PROFESSIONAL ETHICS
Given that public relations play a major role in public communication, building the reputation and mediation of public institutions and their public, representatives of professional public relations associations on a global scale met in Madrid to stand against the negative trends in communication practice and set out guidelines for improving the reputation of public institutions that would restore public confidence. Their idea is that there are thousands of public relations employees behind the public institutions at global level, so the meeting served as an internal support to address everyday professional problems.
Through joint efforts they agreed that it is necessary to work towards raising the standards of the public relations profession on a global scale. The working group of organizations involved will examine in detail the methods used by public relations employees in everyday communication. The meeting in Madrid unanimously expressed the belief in the existence of a universal set of principles and behaviors whose adoption would make them a benchmark at the global level. This would not replace the existing individual codes of associations, but would ensure the adoption of an agreement on an extensive set of principles. Participants recognized the need to launch a campaign about the importance of reliable public relations practice, while simultaneously and continually examining existing codes of ethics.
